The PS4 is a great console that is used for playing games with your friends and family. However, there is one flaw that many gamers have been experiencing. If your PS4 is not connected to the internet, it will suffer from constant disconnects.
The PS4 will keep disconnecting from WiFi and will ask for your password. This could be a big problem if you are in the middle of an intense gaming session. Here is a list of ways to fix your PS4 keeps disconnecting from WIFI.
How to fix PS4 Keeps Disconnecting From WiFi Issue
Frequency bands are the main cause of internet connection issues. We will explain why frequency bands can cause Wi-Fi issues with PS4 and what you can do to fix it. If that doesn’t work, there are other options. You may need to try several of them until you find the right one that fixes the issue.
1.) Manually select a frequency band
The PS4 Pro supports both the 2.4GHz and 5-GHz frequencies. The old PS4 supports only the 2.4GHz frequency band. This Wi-Fi problem is most common on PS4 Pro consoles. It’s caused by the automatic selection of which band to use.
Your PS4 Pro will switch between the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz frequency bands in order to use the fastest one. However, it is possible for your game to start lagging or lose connection for a few moments. You can manually select a band from your console’s network settings if you have a dual-band router.
Most often, the2.4GHzBand offers greater coverage, but at a slower rate.5GHzBand offers faster internet but less coverage. Both bands can be tried and you can choose the one that suits your needs best.
- Go to Settings > Network > Setup an Internet Connection > Use Wi Fi > Easy.
- Look for the “Options menu” at the bottom of your screen and click it.
- Select Wi-Fi Frequency Bands from the menu and choose either 5.0 GHz (or 2.4 GHz).
2.) Close the application and open it again.
Although it may seem simple, sometimes closing the game and reopening it can fix the problem. If you experience the Wi-Fi bug in GTA V, click the home button. Once the home screen opens, press the options button on the controller. A menu will appear. Select the Close the game option to restart the game.
3.) Reboot the Router
After 10-15 seconds, unplug the router’s power cable and reconnect it. Allow the router to power up and then connect it with your PS4. If your router is the problem, you should not experience any drops in connection. If the router is still not working, contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider). You can also manually test internet speed with the PS4’s Test Internet Connection feature.
4.) Reset the console
If the problem isn’t with the modem or router, then it may be with your PS4. If your PS4 is still not connecting to wifi after trying the Quick Fix and nothing works, then please try resetting it to its default settings before taking it to the repair shop.
Soft console resets can be performed for both PS4 and PlayStation 4. Learn how to factory reset your PS4 and make it work again.
These steps will reset your PlayStation 4:
- Your PS4 should be completely turned off.
- Wait for five minutes before you unplug the power cord from the back.
- Connect the power cable to the console.
- Hold the power button down for between 8-10 seconds, and then wait for the second beep.
- Use a USB cable to connect the Dualshock 4 controller with the PS4
- Use the X button to select “Initialize PS4”
Notice: All data, including games, will be deleted when you reset your PS4. You should ensure that you back up your PS4 saves before you reset your console. You can also choose to reset your console by following the same steps, but instead of choosing “Initialize PS4”, select “Restart PS4”.
5.) Fully Delete the Game and Re-Install It Again
Some people experience the Wi-Fi dropoff problem only while playing games such as COD Modern Warfare. If this is you, you might try removing the entire game from your hard drive and then reinstalling it.
Steps to removing a game from PS4
- Navigate to the desired game from the menu.
- The options button can be pressed on the PS4 controller.
- Select Delete from the menu and hit confirm to delete the game.
You can either use the original disc to install the game again or, if the game was purchased from the PlayStation Store, you can also download it again.
6.) Modifying the DNS settings
Sometimes, the DNS server settings and access may be wrong. You can modify the DNS server settings to see if that fixes the problem. Here are the steps to modifying DNS server settings. These steps are arranged chromatically.
- Select the option you want by clicking on “settings” from the PS4 menu bar.
- Look for the “network option” and choose that.
- Click on the “Set up internet connectivity” option.
- We will be presented with two options. You need to choose the one that says “Use WiFi”
- The next window will then open, and you’ll need to choose “Custom” from that one.
- You will need to choose the network you are using or the WiFi network that is connected to your router.
- Once you have connected to the network, a second window will open. Select “do not specify” and then click on Enter.
- Enter the DNS settings in “manual” mode.
- We will be presented with two options after this step. Secondary DNS and Primary DNS. Secondary DNS. This is where we set up the Primary DNS at 8.8.8.8.8. The Secondary DNS will be at 8.8.4.4
7.) Set up a static IP address for the PS4
You are most likely using a dynamic address if you leave your IP settings set to automatic. Your ISP (Internet Service Providers) may assign you a dynamic IP address. They also change when you reboot your router.
Static IP addresses don’t change, which is why they are more reliable when it comes to connectivity. This method will only change your local IP address. It won’t affect your public IP.
How to change your IP address on PS4
- Navigate to Settings > Network > Check Connection Status.
- Take a note or a photo of the IP address and Subnet Mask. Then, go back to the previous menu.
- Go to Set up Internet Connection > Use Wi-Fi
- Select Custom > Manual
- Enter the first three sections (or numbers) of your IP address. Then, choose any number between 2 and 255 to be your last section.
- In Step 2, enter the Default Gateway or Subnet Mask you were asked to write down.
- Select Automatic to set MTU settings
- Select Do Not Use as Proxy Server.
- Check your internet connection now and use the Wi-Fi.
8: Disable media server
It may sound strange, but it solves the problem of not connecting Wi-Fi for many users by disabling the media server. It may be worth trying. Here’s how it works: 1. Scroll down on your PS4 menu to settings.
2) Go to Network.
2) Go to Media Server Connection, and then disable your media server.
9.) Rebuild the Database on a 4
The best way to fix software-related bugs is to rebuild the PS4 database. Although it may take up to an hour, this process is usually worth the effort if you have tried other options.
- Turn off your PS4.
- Hold the power button down for between 8-10 seconds. The PS4 will then boot into safe mode.
- Use a USB cable to connect the Dualshock 4 controller with the PS4
- Then, press the PlayStation button on your controller.
- Use the X button on the controller to select “Rebuild Database”.
- Wait until the process is complete, then your PS4 will automatically boot up.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and sign in to the PlayStation Network.
Notice: If you discover any games that are missing from your game list after rebuilding the database, These can be restored by going to Settings > Account Management > Restore Licences, and then clicking the Restore button.
What Do You if Still PS4 Keeps Disconnecting From WiFi
If none of these solutions work for you, an Ethernet cable is the best choice. An Ethernet cable connection can provide reliable internet and speeds up to 100 times faster than Wi-Fi.
How to connect PlayStation with an Ethernet cable
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the ethernet ports on the router and the PS4.
- Turn on the PS4 as well as the router.
- Go to PS4 Settings.
- Choose Network > Set up Internet Connection > Use the LAN Cable > Simple.
